| Sales Scams |
Purchasing has received notice from a department that a company has
been using devious methods to obtain payments and commitment for
additional payments. Apparently this company will record your
call if you phone to question an invoice and play back part of the call
later, when it is again questioned, as proof of purchase. The
complaining department also claims that a check from this company has
been received and inadvertently deposited. This action commits
the department for further charges in a familiar scheme. A quick
web check indicates that other organizations have had similar
experiences with this company.
Be alert to such scams. Every invoice should have a purchase
order number that can be easily verified otherwise it should be
discarded. If the company cannot produce a purchase order number
for the purchase they have no sale. Posted 03/16/04,
